How to start downloading with SunnyUsenet?
First, sign up for a plan with Sunny Usenet. We recommend the Sunny UNL plan because it has unlimted speeds and 40 connections.
Then, download a newsreader so you can search, post, and download on Usenet. We list a few different newsreaders in our configurator but this list s not all inclusive.
Finally, you’ll use your Sunny Usenet credentials on your selected newsreader to begin accessing Usenet.

How to improve my download speeds?
If you're not on a Sunny UNL plan we suggest giving that a look. Unlimited speed can make a huge impact in how fast you download.
We also have a few tips on how you can improve your download speeds overall:
- Reset of your modem/router (power off, and on again after a short time)
- Your antivirus software and/or firewall may prevent you from getting a maximum speed. Try turning these off temporarily.
- Make sure that you're using all your available connections within your package?
- Go to www.speedtest.net. Is your internet speed as you expected?
- Does your news client automatically repair and unpack in the background? Maybe turn these functions off.
- Check for other processes on your computer that might be using much computing power, or are too much of a burden on your internet connection.
- Is anyone else using your internet connection?
- Could your account be used by others? Please consider changing your password.
- Is your internet provider experiencing maintenance or downtime.
- Additionally note, if you are using a VPN your speed may be reduced.

How do I manually set my port settings, including SSL.
Most newsreaders come with options to select which ports you will use. These port options may vary from newsreader to newsreader but you can find several examples within your My Sunny admin panel inside the Configurator area. All SunnyUsenet accounts come with ports 119, 80, 563(SSL), and 443(SSL) enabled. In general we suggest using ports 563 or 443, both are SSL secured.
Please note: SSL costs computing power. When you have a slow computer, it can be that the download speed with SSL is slower, because the computer cannot keep up with decrypting large amount of files. The faster the internet connection, the faster the download speed and the faster the computer needs to decrypt. While in general this is not an issue, if you're experiencing download speed issues, are on an older computer and are using a secure port, changing to a non-SSL port, either 119 or 80, may speed up your downloads.
